Campa Spraíúil | Mummers, Wren Boys, and Other Uninvited Guests
Campa Spraíúil | Mummers, Wren Boys, and Other Uninvited Guests is a week-long day camp for kids age 8+ located in Annapolis, MD. It promotes Irish culture through daily activities involving Irish history from ancient to modern times and Irish folklore. These activities will include: Irish dancing, painting, storytelling, costume and set design, singing, and poetry. Campers do not need to have prior experience in Irish dancing or music in order to attend.
The week will culminate in a performance that the campers will produce and design. Campers will present what they have learned throughout the week to their friends and family members. This particular camp will be organized around the four Celtic seasonal holidays and the traditions and festivities accompanying them. Many of these traditions include uninvited guests showing up in disguise at their neighbors’ homes to spread a little luck through music and dance. Campers will be learning about these different yearly traditions and attempt to recreate them for their own friends and family members to enjoy.
The end-of-week performance will be held on Friday at 7:30 pm at Hollywood Farm. After the Friday evening performance, campers and their friends and families will be invited to stay for a “bonefire” celebration, which will include a small family ceili. Kids can take home their props and costume pieces after the production

Campa Spraíúil | Kid Creations: Music and Dance Drama
Campa Spraíúil | Kid Creations: Music and Dance Drama is a week-long day camp for kids age 8+ located in Annapolis, MD at The Barn on Hollywood Farm. During this fun, music and dance-filled week, kids will be creating their own dance drama based on a tale from Irish folklore or mythology.
There are three components to this camp: music, dance, and art. Camp director, Catherine Brice, will be spear-heading the dancing, and co-director, Amy Healey, will be spear-heading the art/set/prop design. They will be joined by professional musician and fiddle-player, Sarah Collins, who will be in charge of music for the week.
Campers will spend the mornings working closely under the guidance of their camp directors to storyboard their ideas, plan out their set/prop ideas, and work on stage presence and story telling.
Campers will spend the afternoons practicing music, dance, and creating the set/costume pieces. Campers with no Irish music and dance experience will have the opportunity to learn the beginner tin whistle with Sarah and easy beginner dance steps with Catherine. Campers with music and dance experience will have the opportunity to learn new dances with Catherine and practice tunes with Sarah. All campers will lend a hand in the set creation.
Campers are expected to try a little of each camp component, but we will allow kids with a special interest in art, music, or dance to focus their efforts in the area of their main interests.
The end-of-week performance will be held on Friday at 7:30 pm at Hollywood Farm. After the Friday evening performance, campers and their friends and families will be invited to stay for a small family ceili. Kids can take home their props and costume pieces after the production
