Scoil Spraíúil (“playful school” in Irish) is an integrated art and dance daytime learning program for kids. We offer three levels of learning: infants and toddlers, preschool age, and an extracurricular homeschool program. Our homeschool class can function as a “one-stop-shop” for art and physical education credits. Scoil Spríúil is an outgrowth of Annapolis Percussive Dance’s Club Spraíúil, which uses Irish folklore as a jumping off point for creative art-making, movement, and play. Each class will incorporate an interlude of storytelling, song, and music, which will bridge our time of dance and art.
Our youngest students will be introduced to creative movement and sensory play through art and dance.
The homeschool program will take this education a step further, providing technique and instruction in both percussive dance and art. Dance lessons will be focused on old-style Irish step dancing. The art program will provide students with an overview of techniques (drawing, painting, print-making, sculpture, etc.) with the goal of using art as a means of observation and self-expression.
All classes are held at Club Spraíúil’s home studio located in the neighborhood of Capetowne in Arnold, MD. Dance lessons are led by Catherine Marafino Brice and art instruction is led by Amy Healey. If you’re interested in joining mid-semester, please contact us and we’ll discuss rolling admission.

12:00-1:30 Fridays (90 minutes)
K-12
$300 + $50 supply feeThis integrated class offers school age kids a structured arts and physical education curriculum differentiated by age and prior experience. The class is split into two 40 minute segments, one focused on dance instruction, and the second on art. Older, more advanced students will start with the art segment and younger kids will start with the dance segment. There will be a 10 minute storytelling interlude between sections with an emphasis on Irish folklore, culture, and music.
Catherine Brice, director and instructor at Annapolis Percussive Dance, will be teaching old-style Irish step dancing. This style of percussive dance has an emphasis on rhythm, musicality, and improvisation.
Artist Amy Healey will provide instruction in various artistic media, including: watercolor and acrylic painting, oil and chalk pastel, print-making, sculpting, mixed media, and digital art. Students will be focused on making art from life and from their imagination.
The semester will culminate in an informal performance and art showcase in studio. The end-of-year showcase will be held in conjunction with Annapolis Percussive Dance’s recital.
There is a $50 supply fee to contribute to the cost of art supplies. This fee is per family, not per child. Tuition is $30 per student per 90-minute class, totaling in $300 for a 10 week Fall semester.
